What is "art in bloom??
Art in Bloom is a community arts and gardening project created by the San Leandro Dahlia Society and supported by a City of San Leandro Arts & Culture Grant.
Throughout the 2026 growing season, public dahlia displays at Casa Peralta and Mulford Garden Park will showcase the beauty and diversity of dahlias, the official flower of San Leandro. Visitors can follow the gardens as they grow from newly planted beds in spring to spectacular displays of color through the summer and fall.
Art in Bloom celebrates the idea that gardens are living works of art. Through color, form, texture, and seasonal change, these public displays bring beauty, education, and community connection to San Leandro residents and visitors.
We invite you to explore the gardens, follow our progress throughout the season, and discover why the dahlia has been San Leandro's official flower for nearly a century.
Art in Bloom was created to bring public horticultural art to the community while celebrating the dahlia, the official flower of San Leandro.
Supported by a City of San Leandro Arts & Culture Grant, the project combines public garden displays, educational outreach, community events, and online storytelling to showcase the beauty and variety of dahlias throughout the growing season.
The project features large public plantings at Casa Peralta and Mulford Garden Park, along with outreach activities such as the Cherry Festival and other community events. Visitors can watch the gardens develop over time, from planting and early growth to peak bloom and fall displays.
Art in Bloom is free and open to everyone. Whether you are a gardener, flower enthusiast, photographer, artist, or simply someone who enjoys beautiful public spaces, we hope the project inspires you to explore and enjoy San Leandro's official flower.
