Tubers should be planted in fertile soil where there is at least six hours of sun.  Plant when the soil is warming, in  late March, April or early May.   Follow these simple steps and you will be fine.  This is not rocket science, so variation  will not be much of a problem.

Between small plants and big plants, there is lots to do:  pinching to  promote lateral growth makes bushy plants.   

Spraying may be necessary to  rid your plants of those pesky insects, snails and slugs that love them.  Finding  damage is the clue that you should spray.  

Adding fertilizer or flower enhancer (fertilizers with a large second number, like Miracle Grow BloomBooster).

Disbud some of the buds to encourage a larger bloom
